Corsica

Next up Corsica. We're in the early stages of planning a 5 day hike in Corsica. We decided not to do the long distance and most famous Corsican hike, the GR20. The GR20 sounds like an amazing adventure, but more ambitious than we will tackle this time. Sounds like you have to be prepared to carry your own gear -- tents and cooking equipment. Also, the trail is not for lightweights (like myself) as there are many places requiring use of ladders and cable. Distance, altitude gain and loss are not my problems, but rock with sheer drop off where you fall you die is out of my league, for the most part, though sometimes it comes with the territory. I'll just say that I try to avoid it when I can.

Klebert has found us a great alternative in a hike that runs east to west across Corsica.

Here is how the plans are shaping up for the hike.
  • First night in Ajaccio where we meet up with everyone. Friends are taking the ferry from Marseille and will arrive later in the day.
  • Next day, up early and train or bus to Corte where we begin hike.
  • First night of hike at Refuge de Sega.
  • 2nd night Albertacce.
  • 3rd Night Evisa.
  • 4th night E Case then Ajaccio to the beach.

Essentially this is the Mare et Mare Nord hike. The TopoGuides "Corse: Entre mer et montagne - Parc naturel regional de Corse" is the guide that covers our hike. It is only available in French, but these are the very best guides for any long distance hiking in France. The maps are excellent. We purchased ours through Amazon, but they came from a shop in the U.K. so it took awhile.

Here is a map of our hiking route (distances are not exact on map):
